FIST OF JESUS (SSLFF // Shorts Programme I)
Dir. Adrian Cardona & David Munoz, Spain, 2012, 15mins
‘Fist of Jesus’ deserves the award of most hilarious sci-fi comedy short film – a brilliantly executed (pun intended) story left out of the Bible; the time when Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead… and he came back a zombie!
The jokes don’t end there though, for this plot is resolved with a further 15 minutes of absolutely laugh-out-loud comedy zombie-massacre featuring death-by-swordfish “How are you going to fight me, Jesus? You have no weapon” … “Ah, but I have a fish”. Plus, piranhas. Oh, and cowboys. Yes, COWBOYS!
Munoz and Cardona play with clever filmmaking tricks, excellent timing and dialogue. Doubtlessly slick prop-making skills, special effects and excessive gore, exploding heads… and did I mention fish? ‘Fist of Jesus’ is a film that will stick with you for a very long time, it wouldn’t be wrong to compare this as a Spanish version to Monthy Python.
As solid promise of quality for the currently crowdfunding feature ‘Once Upon A Time In Jerusalem’, these guys have a lot more to come – more information about that on the website (www.fistofjesus.com).
